Dispatch 36 | ‘Can’t Trust Government Amid Lockdown Woes,’ Farmer Says

In this 36th video dispatch in the StoriesAsia On The Road series, our reporters met with a farmer in the northern state of Haryana. He anticipated a loss of about half of his wheat crop due to the COVID-19 lockdown. The state government of Haryana and the Central government have made multiple promises to help farmers during the period of the lockdown, including assisting them in selling their produce. The farmer said he finds it tough to trust governments.

** “On the Road” is a new series by StoriesAsia on the Coronavirus outbreak where we bring you stories that help you respond to this ongoing historic pandemic. Using their vehicles, StoriesAsia journalists will travel around to bring you stories of not just pain and suffering but also healing and heroism.

StoriesAsia, a collective of independent journalists from 16 South Asian and Southeast Asian countries, seeks to replace the present-day parade of faceless numbers with humanising narrative nonfiction – a largely ignored journalistic genre in the region.
