Dispatch 37 | Cremations in the Time of COVID-19

In the 37th video dispatch in the StoriesAsia On The Road series, our reporter took a look at how the coronavirus outbreak has impacted cremations. The reporter visited the Nigambodh Ghat on the banks of the Yamuna river coast in New Delhi. The caretakers shared some surprising facts. They spoke about how people are cremating their loved ones, including those who are dying from the COVID-19 disease.

India is nearing the end of its present lockdown which is supposed to end on May 3.

** “On the Road” is a new series by StoriesAsia on the Coronavirus outbreak where we bring you stories that help you respond to this ongoing historic pandemic. Using their vehicles, StoriesAsia journalists will travel around to bring you stories of not just pain and suffering but also healing and heroism.

StoriesAsia, a collective of independent journalists from 16 South Asian and Southeast Asian countries, seeks to replace the present-day parade of faceless numbers with humanising narrative nonfiction – a largely ignored journalistic genre in the region.
