Dispatch 14 | Led by Empathy, Delhi Woman Feeds 500 Daily

In this 14th video dispatch in the StoriesAsia On the Road series, our reporters met a woman who was actively looking for and feeding labourers who had lost their jobs.

The labourers we spoke with, and thousands of others like them have been walking on highways across India, trying to return to their villages.

The woman who has been leading this particular effort said she was cooking food for at least 500 people and distributing it every day since the 21-day nationwide lockdown began on March 24.

*** “On the Road” is a new series by StoriesAsia on the Coronavirus outbreak where we bring you stories that help you respond to this ongoing historic pandemic. Using their vehicles, StoriesAsia journalists will travel around to bring you stories of not just pain and suffering but also healing and heroism.

StoriesAsia, a collective of independent journalists from 16 South Asian and Southeast Asian countries, seeks to replace the present-day parade of faceless numbers with humanising narrative nonfiction – a largely ignored journalistic genre in the region.
