Dispatch 15 | Lockdown Not the Solution to Polluted Rivers

In this 15th video dispatch in the StoriesAsia On the Road series, our reporters walked along the banks of the River Yamuna in Delhi. They took a close look at the river waters on the 15th day of the ongoing lockdown due to the new coronavirus pandemic. The river might appear to be a little cleaner than before. Still, those whose livelihoods are dependent on these waters do not share the optimism expressed by the media at large. There’s only one thing that can clean the river, they say, and that’s removing the source of pollution – which remains a distant dream.

*** “On the Road” is a new series by StoriesAsia on the Coronavirus outbreak where we bring you stories that help you respond to this ongoing historic pandemic. Using their vehicles, StoriesAsia journalists will travel around to bring you stories of not just pain and suffering but also healing and heroism.

StoriesAsia, a collective of independent journalists from 16 South Asian and Southeast Asian countries, seeks to replace the present-day parade of faceless numbers with humanising narrative nonfiction – a largely ignored journalistic genre in the region.
