Dispatch 16 | Kashmir Residents Reach Out to Help Migrants

In this sixteenth video dispatch from the StoriesAsia “On the Road” series, our Kashmir reporter, Imraan Ali, spent time with volunteers, who are now reaching out to migrants stuck there and unable to travel home. He also spoke with migrant workers themselves to understand their situation. The volunteers, along with well-meaning citizens, have now started reaching out to the non-local workers, offering food and other essentials. Especially, to the people who are barely surviving and are stranded without a livelihood and have nowhere to go due to the prevailing 21-day lockdown in wake of the Coronavirus pandemic.

***“On the Road” is a new series by StoriesAsia on the Coronavirus outbreak where we bring you stories that help you respond to this ongoing historic pandemic. Using their vehicles, StoriesAsia journalists will travel around to bring you stories of not just pain and suffering but also healing and heroism.

StoriesAsia, a collective of independent journalists from 16 South Asian and Southeast Asian countries, seeks to replace the present-day parade of faceless numbers with humanising narrative nonfiction – a largely ignored journalistic genre in the region.
