Dispatch 29 | ‘Talk to Us,’ Urges Stranded Woman with Depression

In this 29th video dispatch in the StoriesAsia On The Road series, our reporter Rajan Raj spoke to a young journalism student from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Delhi. The student found herself stranded in the eastern city of Kolkata when the nation-wide lockdown owing to the COVID-19 crisis was announced on 24 March. Since she has been unable to return, the student is trying to deal with her clinical depression by finding ways of keeping herself busy. She urged those around individuals with mental health issues to show more sensitivity during these tough times of mandatory distancing and isolation.

** “On the Road” is a new series by StoriesAsia on the Coronavirus outbreak where we bring you stories that help you respond to this ongoing historic pandemic. Using their vehicles, StoriesAsia journalists will travel around to bring you stories of not just pain and suffering but also healing and heroism.

StoriesAsia, a collective of independent journalists from 16 South Asian and Southeast Asian countries, seeks to replace the present-day parade of faceless numbers with humanising narrative nonfiction – a largely ignored journalistic genre in the region.
