Dispatch 32 | Stranded Alone on Delhi’s Streets, Minor Brothers Brave it Out

In this 32nd video dispatch in the StoriesAsia On The Road series, our reporter met with two minor brothers, Aaquil, 14, and Aadil, 17. They had been living out of a small tent, made out of bedsheets, on a pavement outside a Delhi hospital. Aaquil had arrived with his elder brother for the treatment of his fractured leg. However, a nationwide lockdown announcement soon after Adil’s treatment was over, made it near impossible for the brothers to return home, which is in the city of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh state, about 100 kilometres away. Stranded for over a month, the siblings are awaiting the lifting of the lockdown.

** “On the Road” is a new series by StoriesAsia on the Coronavirus outbreak where we bring you stories that help you respond to this ongoing historic pandemic. Using their vehicles, StoriesAsia journalists will travel around to bring you stories of not just pain and suffering but also healing and heroism.

StoriesAsia, a collective of independent journalists from 16 South Asian and Southeast Asian countries, seeks to replace the present-day parade of faceless numbers with humanising narrative nonfiction – a largely ignored journalistic genre in the region.
