Dispatch 4 | Hunger Forces Women to Hit the Streets

For this fourth video dispatch in the StoriesAsia Caravan series, our reporters found a group of women crying on the streets in the city of NOIDA which lies in the suburbs of Delhi. They now have no food left in their kitchens.

The families are often supported by the men and women who work as daily-wagers in various capacities across India’s National Capital Region(NCR). The Coronavirus outbreak and the curfew-like 21-day lockdown across India have forced them out of jobs. They are now compelled to leave their homes looking for their next meal, which may or may not come.

* “On the Road” is a new series by StoriesAsia on the Coronavirus outbreak where we bring you stories that help you respond to this ongoing historic pandemic. Using their vehicles, StoriesAsia journalists will travel around to bring you stories of not just pain and suffering but also healing and heroism.

StoriesAsia, a collective of independent journalists from 16 South Asian and Southeast Asian countries, seeks to replace the present-day parade of faceless numbers with humanising narrative nonfiction – a largely ignored journalistic genre in the region.
